The Women’s View Story

The Women's View Story

When I became a Doula in early 2000 I didn’t even own a computer. Now it’s hard to imagine not having instant access to the internet at all times. While I was grateful to have information at my fingertips it became increasingly obvious that conflicting material on the internet was not only frustrating but could even be detrimental to my health. Not to mention the sheer amount of information available, it’s enough to overwhelm anyone. I simply didn’t have time to research articles for validity or look into the credentials of people writing the content in the first place. Even though this bothered me and other women I spoke to I didn’t have a plan to tackle such an enormous project until 2011 when I had a consultation with Dr. Richard Buyalos. I was about to begin IVF and I was nervous, excited and totally ignorant of the process. I immediately began to search for an app to help me stay organized between appointments, medications and tracking my ovulation. Everything I downloaded fell short, even expensive apps. I knew I wasn’t alone in feeling this way after exchanging hushed conversations with other patients in the waiting room. When I voiced my concerns to Dr. Buyalos he agreed. He even offered instances where his patients had received misinformation online, proving that outdated data, statistics and old wives tales are predominant on the internet and get shared on social networks and online communities, furthering the cycle.

We began putting together a team of qualified people to build out our vision of easy access to credible information and tools exclusively for women. I was able to offer a patient’s perspective while Dr. Buyalos imparted his expertise as a world renowned Reproductive Endocrinologist. This well rounded approach produced six different apps and served to empower over 200,000 women (and counting) to take charge of their health and the goals they are trying to achieve. Whether it be to simply track their period to managing menopause and everything in between. During this time my passion for the project grew as I charged forward through disappointments when we didn’t get pregnant, elation when we did and back to defeat when we mourned pregnancies that resulted in miscarriage. While it was one of the most difficult and challenging times in my life I was still inspired to keep developing Women’s View. I continued to be encouraged by other women that there was a real need for an online environment that supported women throughout their reproductive life cycles. The Women’s View website was created to interface with the apps and became a trusted place to gain knowledge, dispel myths, find products or services and commiserate with other women through blogs.

We continue to make improvements to the website and mobile apps as we receive feedback. We pride ourselves in reflecting what it is that women want and need while acting as a trustworthy source. After taking a much needed break from IVF in 2012 we decided to try again. Our daughter was born in December of 2013. While I wouldn’t wish the roller coaster of IVF on anyone I’m grateful for the catalyst it served to create Women’s View and bring women together. We value your experience and feedback.
